We see belonging as a verb – an active process in which we seek to understand, respect and appreciate our own and each other’s identity and perspectives.
Our vision is to contribute to a more inclusive world and develop a greater sense of belonging for ourselves, each other and society. Whilst organisational and social structures, policies and programs are very important to enable inclusive environments, we believe in the power of individual agency, an individual’s ability and desire to step into their own personal leadership, as a critical factor to belonging.
Belonging from within is enabled through deep self-understanding and acceptance, which can then impact our sense of empowerment and ability to understand others.
“True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness.” ~ Brené Brown, Braving the Wilderness
Our broader desired impact is to raise the consciousness levels and resilience of individuals committed to creating a more inclusive Australian society. We will start this journey with a focus on the multicultural dimension of diversity and inclusion.
We see the inherent value in Multi-culture – the focus being not on absorbing everyone into a single way of being, nor on removing or dismissing our differences so as to focus on what’s common, but instead on creating a space within and amongst us in which our differences are enriched by multiple perspectives and together the sum is bigger than the parts.
